Alexandra Cuesta
Alexandra Cuesta (b. 1980) is a filmmaker and photographer who lives and works between Los Angeles, California and Quito, Ecuador.
Her work combines ethnography, experimental traditions and visual poetry, along with an emphasis on formal considerations of 16mm film, her primary medium. Some of the ideas she continually revisits are about the construction of place, structures of time and documenting the invisible, discerning the in-between within the outside and the familiar. Departing from a background in street photography, her images often engage with the public sphere and comment on the conception of identity and cultural diaspora, as well as with social and economic conditions.
Her films have been widely screened, nationally and internationally, at venues such as Viennale International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, London Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Los Angeles Filmforum, Queens Museum of Art, Centre Pompidou, among others.
She was recently included in 25 Filmmakers for the 21st Century in Film Comment’s Avant-Garde Poll and received a Map of Time Jury Award at the 48th Ann Arbor Film Festival.

Moving from east to west and back, the windows of a bus frame fleeting sections of urban landscape. Throughout the day, images of riders, textures of light and fragments of bodies in space come together to weave a portrait in motion; a contemplative meditation on public transport in the city of Los Angeles. Isolation, routine and everyday splendor, create the backdrop of this journey, while the intermittent sounds of cars construct the soundscape. UK Premiere
